This obverse features a date that slants very slightly upward from left to right.



Date rises slightly from left to right

No significant die cracks have been seen, but clear die clashing develops to the right of Liberty’s elbow and also her knee. These two clash marks are from the eagle’s wing from the reverse die.

The branch mint proof die, with the diagnostic diagonal die line below the eagle, and separated serifs in CENTS.

Weakness and separated serifs

In latest die states, die cracks appear in CENTS to the second A in AMERICA.



Late die state die cracks

Comments: This is the first use of this obverse die and the fourth and final use of this reverse die.

Scarcity: A difficult die marriage to find. Coins with the above clash marks and/or reverse die cracks are quite scarce. Rarity rating: R-4.
