1875-S BF-10

Obverse 1

The branch mint proof die. The die was likely put into service after the previous obverse broke resulting in the rim cud. The die has the diagnostic die chip next to the pole just below Liberty’s hand.

Die chip to the left of the pole

Date position a bit high

Date Position: M 3.5, 0.45 mm

Reverse F

This die has a clear S positioned very high, and most minor repunching, visible in upper-right corner only.

High minor S/S

This die is noted for its extensive series of die cracks through much of the reverse lettering.

Extensive die cracks

Comments: This die marriage is popular because of the extensive die cracks on the reverse. The die marriage is easily recognizable due to the high arching crack between OF and AMERICA. This is the third and final use of this obverse die and the second and final use of this reverse die.

Scarcity: This die marriage is scarce and becoming more difficult to find. Rarity rating: R-3.
