The 2013 Double Dime Summit

After working together on this book over the Internet for many months, in July 2013 the two authors met in person for the first time in Rancho Cordova, California. This meeting allowed the authors to examine hundreds of twenty-cent pieces and begin to collate their years of independent research on the series. Organizing the collective research, coming up with designations for die marriages, and identifying die emission sequences were key activities of the weeklong endeavor.

Nearly 700 twenty-cent pieces, including errors and exonumia, were studied and cataloged. There quite likely hasn’t been a gathering of so many twenty-cent pieces in one place since they left the mint. The authors enjoyed total immersion into twenty-cent pieces, and built a camaraderie and friendship that led the way to the completion of this book. Research that led to finishing the first draft of the book continued for many months and took several more meetings. Nonetheless, the Double Dime Summit, as it was called, was a significant event leading to the creation of this work.
