1876-CC BF-NC-1

Obverse 1

A misplaced 8 is found high in the denticles below the 8 in the date. The upper left part of the serif of a misplaced 7 is also visible.

Misplaced 8 and 7 in the denticles

The doubled die obverse is most obvious on the hand, the shield, and the word LIBERTY. Stars 2 through 9 also show very obvious doubling.

Date Position: M 2, 0.65 mm

Reverse A (Reverse C of 1875-CC )

The first C in the mintmark is high and to the left relative to the arrow. The second C is much closer to the leaf than the arrow.

Wide CC

There is also a vertical die line on the lower left of E in CENTS, and die cracks below the left and middle groups of olive leaves below the eagle, as well as some of the legend.

Comments: The only known dies for this issue. This was the only use of this obverse die and only use of this reverse die in 1876. The reverse die was, however, the same reverse die that was used to strike the “Wide CC” 1875-CC (BF-4) coins.

Scarcity: An extremely rare coin and die marriage. Rarity rating: R-6.
